Amberglen Retirement Village is well run and financially secure. The Rules and Regulations are designed to facilitate the smooth-running of the village with the well-being and comfortable lifestyle of all residents in mind. What does my levy cover? It covers the administration costs, security, insurance of the buildings and your cottage, all outside maintenance, all the grass cutting, refuse removal, window cleaning, ambulance services, but not occupancy charges in the Care Centre. Management of the Village A general manager and experienced staff are in charge of the administration of the Village. The Board of Trustees under an elected chairman are responsible for the managing the Village. The estates manager oversees maintenance of common property and the maintenance & cleaning staff. Admin Office Services Fax and copying facilities are available. For your ease, your post is collected from / taken to the Post office daily and if required, your rates and electricity payments are delivered to the municipal offices. Insurance You will need to insure the contents of your cottage. Care Centre Trustees determine the rate of charges in our Care Centre. They are very competitive and in keeping with the care standards provided. Clinic – Village residents can avail themselves of this twice weekly facility to have their BP taken (free) and testing of sugar (small fee). The clinic sister can also offer limited medical procedures. She will make cottage calls on request. Non-residents of Amberglen are accepted into our Care Centre if rooms are available, but owners & their spouses who are residents of the Village have preference and enjoy a lower rate. Panic Button system Portable panic buttons are available and these are linked to the Care Centre when activated in an emergency. Staff will attend & assess each situation and, if necessary, call the ambulance service, which is contracted to Amberglen. Medical facilities in Howick Howick has a fully equipped private hospital (MediClinic). More specialised attention is only 30 minutes away in Pietermaritzburg. There are several doctor’s practices and many specialists have rooms in Howick. Many allied medical personnel are based in Howick to serve the growing needs of the retirees in the area. Home Help Services Howick has several private home help service businesses. They range from specialised home care to assistance in taking ill persons to visit doctors, out shopping, banking or even to the airports in Pietermaritzburg and Durban (King Shaka Airport). Rules In accordance with the Sectional Title Act, our rules have been registered. Rules & Age Our rules specify residents must be 50 years of age or older. However, persons of any age may own a cottage, as many family members do. All property transactions are subject to approval by the trustees. Caravans, trailers & boats permitted Carports may be rented or purchased if available, for storage. Visitors Visitors are permitted to stay over, but their length of stay is restricted. TV Channels Amberglen offers a DSTV bouquet without requiring a decoder, to all cottages at a monthly rate. Private dishes & decoders are permitted for those who wish to avail themselves of the additional satellite service from Multichoice. Meals The diningroom is open for lunch every day, offering a 3-course meal. Frozen meals are also available from the kitchen. Residents who may be ill or just so inclined may order meals to be delivered to their cottages for a small fee. Heated Swimming Pool Anyone who uses the swimming pool pays a nominal fee. Security The village has an electrified perimeter fence. All visiting vehicles are signed in and residents phoned ahead of entry. Sectional Title Amberglen is sold under Sectional Title and there is no retention of funds on sale. For private sales phone the office or consult the local estate agents if you are interested in moving to Amberglen Retirement Village. Telephone system There is a PABX system in place. All internal calls are free and outside calls are metered at Telkom rates. Telephone rental is R40.00 per month. Internet connection Internet connection is provided by local private & national companies, either by radio connection or cellphone links. Pets Permission is required from the trustees to keep pets. Provided properties are fenced in accordance with the rules, dogs are permitted and need to be on a leash whenever out on common property. Cats are permitted only in special circumstances. Shopping / delivery Some supermarkets in Howick offer free delivery for weekly shopping. |
